While on the other hand FC Barcelona's management was incapable of finding the replacement of Xavi. With few speculations of Hansi Flick and solution if Rafa Márquez, Barça management dropped the idea of finding new manager.
Meanwhile, Joan Laporta was convinced and acted full fledged towards stopping Xavi to leave. This was happening after some firey statements made by Laporta after Xavi announced his departure.
Now from here Joan Laporta decided to convince Xavi to make him stay at Barça and one fine day he invited Xavi, Deco and all the biggies from board room and gave some conditions and done some promises to Xavi and came on the consensus that Xavi would stay for one more season.
But the question of the hour is WHY? WHY IS XAVI STAYING? Doesn't Xavi or Laporta has any self respect? Let me explain.
On the face value people can only think about 3 reasons... Couldn't find a manager, Couldn't negotiate a deal with supposed manager and No money for rebuild. But was Joan Laporta was actually in favour of Xavi staying? Some inside voices say NO. They say that Laporta was never in favour of Xavi as Barça first team coach but it was a grand scheme of his ex-brother in law and old friend Alejandro Echeverría. Who was also present at Laporta's house in meeting with Xavi
Echeverría is the same guy who is said to bring Deco at the club as scout and now as a Sporting Director as his old relationship with Portugese since his business days in Gabon.
So what is the main reason??? Primarily there 3 prime reasons.
First, the wait for the end of the sabbatical year or end of the contract: Everyone knows thag Joan Laporta is a big fan of German philosophy of football and specifically Jürgen Klopp who is set to leave Liverpool after long 9 years but due to lack of motivation and energy decided to take one year brake and many reports speculates that Joan Laporta maybe planning for something big with German as Jurgen already has farmhouse in Mallorca in Greater Catalan region. On the other hand few reports speculates that Deco likes the option Luis Enrique and he wants to bring the treble winning coach back to the Blaugrana club who has a contract with PSG till 2025. Some people also dream about Pep Guardiola return but some dreams are meant to be just for night time.
Second, the inauguration of the new Spotify Camp Nou and project Espai Barça: 2024/25 season is full of grandeur and history being written as Barça celebrates its 125th Anniversary with gift of new Spotify Camp Nou and project Espai Barça which promises Barça to give freedom from long time economic unrest given by previous Blaugrana regime led by Josep Bartomeu. On such occasion Barça administration want Legend like Xavi Hernandez to be part of such big moment as he is one of the legends of golden times of Barça. With that comes signing of some big names that can be foreseen in the near future...
Third, the last reason is the election: All the momentum that Laporta will get through making such big change in Barça's history will be capitalised by him in the elections where he can brag about his dream project Espai Barça and new Spotify Camp Nou and project himself as his only option before his opponents as he could not only save them from mishap of previous regime but he also gave the pathway to Barça where it can become great again. So Laporta says losing will have some consequences but it's pretty much evident that Xavi isn't getting fired until the inauguration of new Spotify Camp Nou that's to happen in November of the year 2024.
